Pearly Oyster's project list July 2000
Bonehead (13×13 minutes), directed by Emma Calder and Ged Haney A series of surreal comedies for adults. Bonehead is immature, gratuitous puerility for the sophisticated adult of class and distinction; thirteen minutes of harmless anarchy for superannuated lovers of The Beano, Wacky Races and The Goodies. Bold, colourful designs and offbeat, stylised dialogue. Ape (26 minutes), directed by Ged Haney When a bank heist goes catastrophically awry one of the perpetrators, disguised as a gorilla, lies low in the ape-house of the town zoo. The other inhabitants gradually come to accept him as one of them, and he in turn comes to realise that he is one of them. Beware of Trains (6 minutes), directed by Emma Calder Using a mixture of computer manipulated collages, drawn animation and live-action, this is a flim about distress told and seen through the eyes of a female stalker. Reality, fantasy and dreams unroll seamlessly in a hypnotic and disturbing stream of consciousness. The Wheel (3 minutes), directed by Fiona Woodcock Drawings executed on the site of the British Airways London Eye, from the very beginning of construction to the present, provide the basis for an inspirational and dramatic animated film. For the large screen and television. Gone Fishing (3 minutes), directed by Christoph Simon A film about platonic friendship. Loosely based on an urban myth, this is the gently humorous story of two old men on a fishing trip. As they sit serenely in their boat, patiently waiting for the fish to bite, there is not a lot to do other than smoke roll-ups. Nevertheless, as the story unfolds, slowly and innocently, both men manage to lose their false teeth. Drawn animation.
